Amy Cimini is a violist, musicologist, and Associate Professor of Music at UC San Diego, where she works in the Integrative Studies area. With over 25 years of experience in experimental and noise contexts, she has developed a distinctive approach to the amplified viola combining overtone-rich distortion, percussive extended techniques, and deep reverb. She is a member of the San Diego-based noise band Necking and performs in the duo Architeuthis Walks on Land with bassoonist Katherine Young. She is also the author of Wild Sound: Maryanne Amacher and the Tenses of Audible Life (Oxford University Press, 2022) and co-editor of Maryanne Amacher: Selected Writings and Interviews (Blank Forms Editions, 2020).
